The Perfect Circle of Sound

Some of the Research into the Sense of Sound

As part of my research into synaesthesia I have also been investigating the 5 senses individually. In the previous post I highlighted something that very much tied into synaesthesia - sound creating form. Also when investigating the sense of sound I came across "The Solfeggio Frequencies"
This is an ancient scale and is a 9 tone sequence of electro magnetic frequencies. They were used in the ancient Gregorian chants and are believed to impart tremendous transformation and healing emotionally and spiritually. Sometimes referred to as "the perfect circle of sound" due to their immaculate symmetry of mathamatics and the sacred geometry in the vibrations of their sound frequencies.

The frequencies are: 174Hz; 285Hz, 396Hz, 417Hz; 528Hz; 639Hz; 741Hz; 852Hz
There are 111Hz between each one.

They are linked to the physics of creation - bio chemists use the electromagnetic frequency 528Hz to repair broken DNA - the blueprint of life.

I am thinking of using them to form some of the audio in my final motion piece on synaesthesia ... but lets not mention AfterEffects!

  1. Hi Steph,
I think you are working with such an interesting topic, I have no idea what your end piece will be but I'm intrigued to see what you will do with all this research. I felt I was being hypnotised with that video, so I'm going to bed now to wait for my emotional and spiritual healing!

You could probably do with a bit of that healing yourself, if your suffering from the after effects of AfterEffects!!

  2. Hey Audrey, Bring on that AfterEffects healing! Although its all about conquering the fear of it at the moment. Progress is very slow, I'm on the basic level with the Tutorials still and still struggling to DO anything with it outside of the step by step instructions. Its' like sitting in a cockpit - the interface is so daunting to me! But I'll keep chipping away because once I've 'got it' the potential with it is so amazing, I must post some video links to the type of things its capable of visually creating. Really the only barrier will be my own imagination.

I do have a lot of reasearch strands too so I'm a little in danger of getting bamboozzeled. I have started on a very "initial" storyboard though and developing that as I go should help me pull the relevant bits into focus on the final motion piece.... I hope. There's a lot to distill though and I'll have to be ruthless with the conceptual editing in terms of actually being able to create something that effectively communicates and engages.
This weeks been pretty good on things though- which I needed as I was starting to drown a bit in it. Thanks for dipping in to it on the blog here with me Audrey, it really helps!

  3. There was a comment here from Audrey and one from me responding to it (as usual quite long windedly) but they have disappeared. I'm not sure why and thought it I posted a comment it might by some miricle make them come back. Just annoyed it this happens now as I had actually teased through some stuff in the reply to Audrey and have no record of that now.

  4. Hi Steph,
I noticed this on a few blogs but i dont know if its just my comments that are disappearing? I'll put it out on MA Teach to see if anyone else has experienced the same problems. I hope its just a small glitch because its great to refer back to peoples comments and advice for direction.

  5. That's pretty annoying I will see if I can find anything on it. In the meantime it is probably best to write in Word and copy and paste, at least that way you have a copy.

  6. Hi Steph, how well the music and images work it reminded me a bit of Bridget Rileys work and how different I would of looked at her work if she had music to it. Jane

  7. We are coming once more to a meeting point Steph. In revisiting the first review and the subsequent "animation" that goes with it I'm all tangled up in typeface and punctuation, in the second, and I hope last I am currently stuck in the electromagnetic spectrum...
I love your research its very comprehensive and accessible. I think themes of what we know, what we think we know and HOW we think we know what we think we know are shared by one or two people in the class. Its really fascinating.
